New works
Important new performance pieces by Feline-American artist Catfish.
Left:
Catfish, "High Box Piece", 2008, 2 hours 13 minutes,
the artist tucked in the top box of a 7 foot high stack of boxes.
In this wry commentary on the human trend toward "extreme sports",
the artist forces the viewer to consider the inherent risks found in
some contemporary, supposedly "leisure" activities manifested in modern media by such television programming as "Fear Factor" and "Survivor".
Right:
Catfish, "Rabbit Roadkill Piece", 2008, indeterminate duration.
The artist assumes performance position in mathematical center of gallery floor, requiring visitors to step over or walk around.
This work serves as a powerful reminder of the casual approach humans take to mortality in the animal world, forcing the viewer to carefully consider the role of speciesism in his thinking processes.
